Mount Osceola

Sunday, July 4th, 2010 by gwen

Yesterday my friends Leeanne, Chris and I decided to drive up to the White Mountains in NH to do some hiking. Naturally I selected on of my 4,000 footers for us to climb. Mount Osceola is rated as a moderate hike, so it was a great start back into the challenging climbs in the White Mountains.

The hike took us 3.5 hours round trip, and the view from the top was amazing – you could see all the way to Mt. Washington off in the north. I can’t wait to get back up there and check a few more mountains off my list – only 45 more to go!

Girls will be girls

Seeing as “No Boys Allowed” was such a hit last month, I decided to take advantage of Nick’s absence again with part II. This time around my friend Leeanne brought over Dream Phone (which I loved playing with my best friend in elementary school), and I supplied the other essentials like jello shots, cosoms, snacks, pink hair mascara – oh, and Darci brought over an original 1980s hair crimper. All told, it was amazing.

It was gorgeous on Sunday, after an early brunch with Nick at Friendly Toast in Kendall, I headed over to the plant store to find some flowers for our backyard. I had no luck with that, as I’m looking for something particular (peonies). However, I did run into my new gardener buddy Danielle. We were both headed over to our plots, so I offered to help her tote over some tomato cages and seedlings.

Making squares

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010 by gwen

When I found out that I got into the community garden last winter, I immediately started researching urban gardening techniques. I decided to go with square foot gardening, which seems to take the most advantage of small spaces. Yesterday was so sunny and beautiful that I decided to clock out early and head over to the garden for a different type of work (yay manual labor!).

Dirty work

Monday, March 22nd, 2010 by gwen

This past weekend was filled with incredibly beautiful weather. Naturally, I spent most of it outside, and a good deal of time working in the dirt. On Saturday afternoon I decided to tackle my new community garden plot that’s just a couple blocks away. I went to check on it back in January or so, when I was notified that it was all mine for the next three years. So, I was aware that it was a bit of a mess.

No boys allowed

Sunday, March 7th, 2010 by gwen

Last night I hosted a girls night, definitely a great idea on my part. There is nothing better than getting a bunch of girls together in one room to paint nails, play Girl Talk, drink cosmopolitans, snack, gossip, jello-shoot, and watch the ultimate girlie movie (sex & the city). I got an original 1988 version of Girl Talk off Ebay, and it’s exactly as I remember it, zit stickers and all. I think only one person got away without a zit sticker last night. Some classics were “eat a slice of lemon without making a face” FAIL, “sing the star spangled banner without laughing” FAIL, “name on classmate you would like to trade places with” WIN, “pretend you’re in a talent show, and perform your talent for everyone”….. I definitely want to do this again, but am considering making an more grown up insert for the game, to make things a little more interesting.
