Southern Love

Sunday, November 25th, 2007 by gwen

It always feels a little strange going back to the South. There is always a hint of mildew and perfume in the air. However, I learned a few things while visiting with Nick’s grandmom in Athens for Thanksgiving – like why to never wag a dog’s tail, some new baby Nick memories, and how to make a delicious Date-Nut loaf. We have returned to Boston feeling fully full of food and love.

We arrived in Atlanta on Thanksgiving morning and hopped in our gold rental car and drove straight up to Athens where grandmom lives. She fed us the most delicious Southern Thanksgiving meal: baked sweet potatoes, collard greens with apples, eggplant and green tomato patties, country corn bread, fresh tomatoes and date-nut loaf for dessert. All of the veggies were fresh from grandmom’s garden, and everything was so delicious. We had both forgotten how much we love collard greens – I will be on the lookout for some fresh ones up here.

Nick and I received a couple requests for the text of our ceremony, so here goes.

We join Gwen and Nick in this happy occasion to recognize their union into the community of family, friends, and humanity surrounding us.

Mystery solved!

Monday, November 12th, 2007 by gwen

We solved the mystery of who gave us (one of) the belgian waffle iron! Once we actually OPENED the package there was a very sweet card tucked inside. Thanks to N’s cousins in GA – I know what we’ll be having for breakfast on Saturday morning!

Also, I plan on posting a wedding recap once I get copies of our awesome photos from our very talented photographer – Eric Wimberly.

Honeymoon Recap

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007 by gwen

N and I got back from our trip to Costa Rica on Sunday evening, and we are still (slowly) adjusting to the daily grind after two weeks of vacation. I thought I would write a little bit about how we spent our time in Costa Rica.

Day 1: Sunday

We wake up at 4:00 a.m. in our honeymoon suite to drive to Orlando for our flight to CR. All goes well and we arrive in San Jose around noon. Immediately upon walking out of the airport we receive numerous offers for (quite expensive) rides to La Fortuna, where we are headed for the evening. We had heard that CR has a good public transportation system that is dirt cheap – so we decide to find the public buses. So we hop in a cab and get dropped off at the main bus station in San Jose.
