Doppelgänger

Monday, November 24th, 2008 by gwen

Why is Nick taking pictures of himself trying to look like various automobiles? Good question. And thanks to Adam for creeping us out with this picture today – wonder what Adam’s doppelganger is up to back in Gville…

Woodies 2008

A lot of people at my job worked really hard pulling together this year’s Woodie’s awards. It’s funny because UF had mtvU playing all over campus, and for some reason I never noticed it until I started working for them. One of the perks of working here is getting VIP tickets to the big show:

It was a great show – but I missed a great performance by Vampire Weekend, to head to the after party early. Oops!

Iceland: days five and six

Thursday, November 6th, 2008 by gwen

The last installment of our Iceland vacation – I cannot express enough what a fantastic trip it was, my favorite vacation to date. I can only imagine it would be even more spectacular in the summer, especially since the interior roads are open then. I definitely want to return one day to go backpacking through the wilderness, see the puffins in July on the Western Fjords, and go see the glacier lagoon in the south east (if all the glaciers haven’t melted before I return).

Day Five: Wednesday the 29th

Again, we wake up at Hotel Budir, but today we wake up to spectacular sunny skies.

Out of our room window, looking out to the ocean:

Election day!

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 by gwen

I did vote this morning. My first time actually voting in person, as I did an absentee ballot in 2004 (yeah, like they really counted that one…). It was fun and exciting and there was no line! I just ran in on my way to the subway this morning, everything was running smoothly.

I thought this was a really interesting mix of how people are feeling right now. The red words were submitted by McCain supporters, and the blue words were submitted by Obama supporters:

How are you feeling today?

Iceland: day four, Snæfellsnes peninsula

Monday, November 3rd, 2008 by gwen

Wow, I thought I could finish this in one more post, but day four was longer than I remembered, and deserves its own post.

Day four: Tuesday the 28th

We wake up to steady snow – everything’s even whiter than it was before! Not really knowing what to expect, we get ready and go downstairs for breakfast. Hotel Budir had all of the typical Icelandic breakfast items, but also tons of fresh fruit and a platter of brie and other soft cheeses – yum. It was the best breakfast we had in Iceland.

All through breakfast we watch the snow continue to fall, and wonder if we’re going to get snowed in with our tiny car, and wonder about the road conditions as well. We decide to chance it, and go out for the day to explore the peninsula. The road leading out from the hotel had a couple inches of fresh snow, but the main road that circles the peninsula was freshly plowed.
