Goodnight

Saturday, February 28th, 2009 by gwen

It was another productive day at the condo, more on that later. We had a relaxing night with our favorite couple from Watertown, let’s call them Joli…or Alish. Diner and wine, the more drinks, then Berry Line fro-yo….mmmm…..

I’m glad we walked home from Harvard, otherwise we would have missed the finishings of this fire on Mass Ave:

It’s so rare you get to see a giant fire ladder sticking into a window. Not sure what happened there, but I love the two firemen holding up that pole. I think that building is all offices, so hopefully no one was there when this all went down. No time for worrying, it’s off to bed so I can take more pictures of the condo tomorrow. Night!

What we did this weekend

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009 by gwen

Last week was incredibly eventful, to say the least. On Thursday we closed on our condo in Inman Square, but not without one final bit of drama that was resolved an hour before closing. Phewf! Just made it. But it’s DONE! And I am so so so SO happy and excited to finally be a “home” owner.

We purchased the condo with a plan for demolition before we moved in, so I took a few “before” pictures on Saturday. Unfortunately we were really excited to get started, and there’s already a hole in the wall, and the french doors are out:

Above: Standing near the bathroom door, looking into the future dining room and living room. The french doors to the right used to be attached to that doorway, so the two rooms could be separated more. Closed-off floor plans just don’t work for Nick and I, so we’re tearing out that entire wall, closet included. You can see Nick destroying some drywall to the right to expose the old beautiful brick.

Rock Meadow

Saturday morning I woke up early (for me) to go on a nice winter walk with Ali and Buckley the beagle. I’ve been meaning to check out Rock Meadow in Belmont for awhile now, and it did not disappoint. It connects to anther park across a stream to provide 80-something acres of goodness.

Tea for one

tea

I recently received a surprise package in the mail from my Mom. It included this lovely glass mug, “blooming” jasmine tea packets, and some natural sugar crystals. I took the whole lot to work last week and have been having a big mug of this stuff every day. At first, the hand tied jasmine tea kind of freaked me out since it looks like a sea urchine – but it’s SO good I got over it. Thanks Mom!

Mount Sunapee

Monday, February 16th, 2009 by gwen

I really needed a long weekend, and presiden’s day came just in time. Most of our weekend was spent relaxing, so fantastic. Friday night was chill, we both had really long weeks, and Nick had just arrived home from a two day trip down to NYC for his job.

Saturday morning we woke up and made some waffles just in time for our friend Brendan to arrive from Philadelphia. We ate some breakfast, had coffee, and then packed up for skiing at Sunapee – just an hour and a half away in NH. I decided to go with skis, since last time I tried to snowboard  I’m pretty sure I bruised my tailbone. It went well, considering I hadn’t been on skis in 12 years. Nick and his friend were on snowboards, and Nick was doing pretty well by the end of the day – until one particularly ungraceful dismount from the lift (which included almost taking me down with him).
