My favorite

sprangsSister turns 30 today, and I wish nothing more than to be spending the entire day goofing off with her. I think there are a lot of people out there who don’t realize how amazing the people in their lives are* – especially when it comes to family. My sister is definitely not one of those people, and neither am I. We all get to choose who we surround ourselves with, and I choose to hold my family closest to my heart.

Although I can only account for the past 20 or so years of my sister’s life first hand (I don’t remember much before the age of 5), I have so many fantastic memories of growing up together. I remember so many days with her playing dolls in the attic, hide and seek everywhere in the house and the neighborhood, mud-ball fights in the backyard, catching tadpoles down at the lake, sneaking out of bed late at night to tell ghost stories in the living room. Even the childhood bickering was good, like when we decided to draw a line down the center of our bedroom to make two sides, yours and mine.

Mount Lafayette

Sunday, July 26th, 2009 by gwen

Ah, another great hike. Only this time the mountain was a lot taller – 5260′ to be exact. Ali and I took the Greenleaf trail up, and then back down again. It was a filthy two hour ascent, including lunch, due to all the rains we’ve been having. The trail was a small stream at a lot of points, but it was absolutely gorgeous and my favorite hike in NE to date. Unfortunately we both forgot our cameras, but Ali’s camera phone came to the rescue, even though these pictures don’t quite capture the landscape.

Our first time out of the woods, along a rock wall, an amazing vista behind us (not pictured).

Working from home

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 by gwen

I started working from home at the beginning of July, and definitely have had mixed results. Some days I wish I were in the office, lolly-gagging around with my coworkers. Then there are days like today, when I don’t miss a windowless little office downtown. My local coworkers and I all met up in West Newton to work from one of our apartments. The day was good, but quickly took a turn for the amazing when I heard ice cream man music coming down the road. I literally grabbed my purse and bolted out the front door to chase down this guy:

icecream

I wound up with a TMNT ice cream bar for my coworker, and a fruity popsicle for myself. West Newton is my new favorite place to work from, and that guy is my new favorite ice cream vendor.

New Bed

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 by gwen

kittehA couple weeks ago I made Bella a bed out of one of our old pillows and her favorite fleece throw blanket. She absolutely adored the bed, and would choose it over any other spot in the house, except for crumpled paper of course. However, it was not the greatest looking bed ever. I considered covering the pillow in a nice patterened fabric, but that would take away her favorite fleecy part.

Last weekend I came up with a perfect solution when I found this old local cookie crate in an antique store down the road. At first I thought she hated it, but she’s been sleeping in it all day today. Yay for cute pet beds!

Todays mail

stampBrought me something I love – my new return address stamp! I saw these custom stamps featured awhile ago on a blog I read, and have wanted one ever since. Now that we’re settled into our new place the timing seemed right, so I went ahead and ordered my favorite one. I would definitely recommend Paperwink to anyone – such nice people and super quick turnaround. Hopefully this will encourage me to send more mail. Anyone need a pen pal?

I also received my new Mass license in the mail today as well. I guess that makes it official – Boston is home. (Sorry FL – you’re too humid)
